Lourdes Youth Ministry
Thursday March 11th - Wow, it's been a long time since I wrote anything. Well, Drew and I have been traveling alot promoting Power Week. We are almost half full for girls, and almost 10 boys signed up.... Lent's going great. I'm getting excited about the Holy Week podcast.... This semester is flying by.... I'm so excited about the warmer weather and even got to play a round of disc golf yesterday, so that was awesome.... Saturday is the Confirmation service project day, but it's supposed to rain, so that could be interesting... LYNC band is playing at the Boneyard Saturday night, so that will be fun. Practicing tomorrow.
Attitude: LOVING the warmer weather. Despite the rain.
Song on my iTunes: well, it's not on right now... but the last one I remember was "meteor showers"
Randomness: Ryan Hayden is in my office right now struggling to put the polar bear puzzle right now.

Tues Feb 23rd - This is going to be a tough Lent for me. My thing is "purity of speech." I started out by just giving up sarcasm. But then it kind of snowballed into all negative talk & complaining, etc. I sort of got inspired by this book I'm reading My Year of Living Biblically about this guy who tried to live strictly by the Bible and follow all of it's rules for an entire year. So he grew a beard and never cut his hair and always told the truth etc. Pretty interesting really. Anyway, so I was inspired to clean up my mouth for Lent. But now, one week in, I'm already noticing that this is pretty profound actually. Now I think about everything I say before I say it. So now my thoughts are more pure. And when I hear other people complain or gossip or make fun of something or somebody it makes me cringe. ... It's like I have this censor in my brain now. I've literally stopped myself in mid-word several times. But I'm making great progress. I've had to stop and restate things less and less each day. It's working! And I feel much better for it.
I got the new Toby Mac CD today. Man, it's good! Read more...
Attitude: Last night and this morning were pretty gloomy, but right now I'm happy.
Randomness: Tonight we're ordering pizza for supper
Song playing on iTunes right now: "Pardon Me' by Incubus
Fri Feb 19th - The middle school lock in is finally happening tonight. We dodged the snow and freezing rain, so it's on! Who needs sleep, right?
My Lent is off to a great start. I'm working on purity of speech for Lent. Which is harder than I originally thought. No sarcasm, no complaining, no talking negatively, etc etc.
If you need ideas for what to "give up" for Lent, check out http://www.nicksenger.com/csc/101 for some great ideas.

Feb 9th - This will be short one... .it did in fact snow. Lots. So I shoveled my driveway at 7:30am. But it's very pretty. But that's not what's important to me this morning - (click here) to read this article about "Owl City." Adam used to be a youth minister. How cool!!! Also, Toby Mac's new album is out today. VERY EXCITED!!! (Click here) to go to Toby Mac's facebook for a free preview of each song. Feb 5th - They're calling for snow AGAIN! So I'm just waiting on the call to postpone the middle school lock in, which is supposed to be tonight at the YMCA. I don't like staying up all night, so I'm totally fine with putting that one off. ... My big news this week was getting a chance to meet the new Bishop! We had our Mass with the Bishop for Beau on Tuesday (something Catholic Charities does for each adopted baby) with Bishop John. Then at the end Bishop Medley walked in and talked to "meet the new baby" and stayed to talk for awhile. He even gave Luke "knuckles" which I thought was very cool... Anyway, I'm hearing nothing but good things about Bishop Medley. I can't wait for the ordination next Wed b/c I've never seen a bishop ordination before. Pretty historic event actually.

Attitude: happy, content, hopeful, and very positive
Randomness: I'm listening to the latest "Think Love Go" podcast right now.
Jan 20th - Don't have much time, will try to write more later. In the wake of the Haiti disaster we had a great conversation Sunday night about ways our church/community/youth group can help with Haiti through CRS etc. This week we're continuing to brainstorm and will come up with a plan. Exciting things!!!
Attitude: excited, hopeful, ready for change

Jan 17th - This has been a great week! I've actually enjoyed getting back in the swing of things after a long Christmas break and then right into snow days. But this week was solid and I got alot done. Just got a newsletter out to all the students with info about this semester.
This Sunday is the Confirmation NET retreat, which is always a blast but also very meaningful. Looking forward to that. Then Sunday night at the youth meeting we're talking about ways we can help the situation in Haiti. Sounds awful down there!
Attitude: Hopeful, ready, and willing

Jan 8, 2010 - I'm excited about the new year. Looking forward to new opportunities and great memories made in 2010. So as the new year begins, here's a run-down of what's going on in my life:
Lourdes: The semester is getting ready to begin with our youth meeting this Sunday night. I'm especially looking forward to the high school mission trip this summer and seeing Matt Maher at NewSong in Aug.
Family: Luke is about to turn 2. His new favorite word is "please", which sounds more like "peeze" when he says it. But it's so darn cute. Beau is 2 months old already. He weighs 13lbs9oz, so he's actually bigger than Luke was at his age. He's a bruiser and he changes everyday. He's got the sweetest little grin.
What I'm reading: "God-Bearing Life" - it's a book about youth ministry. I'm absolutely loving it, it's giving me alot to think about. I also just read a Max Lucado book about Christmas that my mother-in-law gave me.
What I'm listening to: Andrew Peterson's new "Appendix:C" and John Mayer's new CD.
Song playing on my iTunes right now: Relient K "Be My Escape"
